CPM politburo decides to steer clear of issue
The meeting which began at 11 am discussed the matter in detail.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM available politburo discussed the allegations of rape and cheating against CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan's elder son Binoy Kodiyeri during its meeting in Delhi on Thursday.
The meeting which began at 11 am discussed the matter in detail. The leaders decided not to make any public statement on the issue as the matter concerned two individuals. Since the complainant and Binoy are not party members and the matter is not related to party, there was no need for the leadership to intervene in the issue.
However, the party took up the matter as it pertained to the family of CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and in the backdrop of opposition UDF and BJP making it a political issue in Kerala.
The party has taken a position that law should take its own course in the case and if anyone has committed a wrong he should face the consequences. Since the allegations have been levelled by a woman and it pertains to rape and cheating, the party wants to steer clear of the issue.
The CPM central leadership had received a petition from the complainant two months ago and had even held informal discussion with the state leaders.
