Mr Chowdary said that Mr Naidu was his political guru and confessed that he drew inspiration from him on various issues.
Vijayawada: After quitting the Telugu Desam, Rajya Sabha member Y.S Chowdary disclosed that he differed with former chief minister N. Chadrababu Naidu on the withdrawal of support to the then BJP-led NDA regime on the special status issue. He accepted the decision as a disciplined soldier of the party, he said.
Speaking to media persons, Mr Chowdary said, “I have taken a political decision, keeping in mind the development of AP. Three more colleagues have joined me in quitting the TD and joining the BJP.”
Reacting sharply to the criticism that he quit the TD to safeguard his business interests, he said that he has been in business for 35 years and quit to join politics. He was with the TD when it was in a crisis from 2004 to 2014, Mr Chowdary said.
Explaining his business interests, Mr Chowdary said: “I quit business in 2004 after joining politics. I have not committed murder, cheating, bribery and am not even involved in #MeToo. I never do business with government. Investigation on any allegations is a legal procedure incorporated in the Constitution and anyone can be subject to inquiry irrespective whether they are involved in any wrongdoing or not.”
He stated that he took a political decision to quit the TD only to join the BJP. He said that he had never invited any colleague to join the BJP with him.
Referring to the demand for according special category status to AP, Mr Chowdary said that the NDA government had given the best financial package to the state. The issue was now a closed chapter, and it might be too early to speak on the issue at present, he said.
