Warangal: Raids were conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on private medical colleges across Telangana state on Wednesday.

The ED had received complaints about irregularities as also exchange of huge amounts through the illegal hawala route, vis-a-vis filling the PG medical seats under Management quota. Hence the raids on nine private medical colleges across Telangana state, official sources said.

These include MediCiti Medical College, MNR Medical College, SVS Medical College, Patnam Mahender Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences, Deccan Medical College, Kamineni Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Malla Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences (MRIMS), Prathima Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and Chalmeda Anand Rao Institute of Medical Sciences (CAIMS).

These raids came quick on the heels of the raids by the Income Tax, CBI, ED and Vigilance departments on the houses and granite companies of several BRS leaders.

ED officials divided themselves into teams at dawn and zeroed in on 15 destinations along with CRPF contingents in teams along with CRPF police personnel. They raided the offices and houses of the owners of the nine private medical colleges and their close associates.

The Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) had lodged a complaint at the Mattewada police station in Warangal last year suspecting that irregularities were taking place in the filling of postgraduate medical seats and seats were being blocked under the management quota in various colleges.

Meanwhile, BRS leaders alleged that the BJP government was bent on tarnishing the image of the BRS in Telangana state and hence unleashing the central agencies to conduct such raids.

“We are not afraid of such raids since the people are with the BRS party and would hand over power for a third consecutive term to Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao,” they said.
