Engineering student taking selfie hit by train in Kurnool

ANANTAPUR: The selfie craze took another life on Wednesday. An engineering student was hit by a train as he failed to move out in time after taking a selfie on the tracks in Kurnool district.
The incident took place at a bridge near Neravada in Panyam mandal. Idrus Bhasha, 20, of W. Govinda Dinne in Dornipadu mandal in Kurnool district, was the only son of Mr Mulla Shabir Bhasha and Ms Shakila Banu, He was studying second-year engineering at RGM College near Panyam.
On Wednesday Idrus and his friend Harish were out on a morning walk by the tracks near a bridge at Neravada when they noticed a train approaching from Nandyal.
The two decided to take selfies with the train in the background and stood on either side of the tracks. While Harish managed to move away seconds before the train reached them, Idrus could not. He suffered grievous injuries and died on the spot.
Harish alerted the college management and later Idrus’ parents about the tragic incident. Nandyal assistant station manager N. Suresh Reddy lodged a complaint with the railway police. Railways sub-inspector K. Narayana Yadav registered a case.
