Puducherry: After much confusion, the Centralized Admission Committee (Centac) on Thursday announced the schedule for the first phase of counselling for admissions to MBBS courses in government colleges and private medical colleges in Puducherry.

After much confusion, the Centralized Admission Committee (Centac) on Thursday announced the merit list for medical, engineering and B. Pharm as per the reservation policy of the government based on Neet ranking .  Students can submit their objection, if any,  regarding the merit list till 1 pm on Friday .

Though Centac had announced  that the first-phase of counselling for admission to  MBBS courses   in government colleges,  and private medical colleges in Puducherry  will begin on Friday, the date was postponed late in the evening.

“Based on the information received from self financing medical colleges as communicated by the health department, the counselling scheduled to be commenced from  July 21, 2017, stands postponed by a few days. New dates will be communicated,” an  official communication received from Centac officials said.

According to the fees structure announced by the panel , fee per annum under state quota is fixed as  Rs 3.35 lakh for Pondicherry Institute of Medical Science (PIMS), Rs 3.13 lakh for Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College and hospital and Rs 2.99 lakh for Sri Venkateswara Medical College and Hospital.

For management quota seats fees has been fixed as Rs 12 lakh and Rs 20 lakh under NRI quota. The three private medical colleges have 150 MBBS seats and have surrendered 55 seats each.

Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy had already approached the Centre seeking 25 per cent quota in deemed universities as state quota to compensate for the loss of seats to local students.

“Last year four institutions surrendered 137 MBBS seats to the government. From this year we will not get these 137 odd seats as the admission is done by DGHS. Hence we submitted a memorandum to the Union minister seeking 25 per cent of MBBS seats in those institutions under Puducherry state quota,” he said.

Though Lt Governor Kiran Bedi pressed for a new Centac committee as the present administration is facing CBI investigation on charges of maladministration and corruption, the government were not ready to make changes in the current committee.
