Congress hits out at TRS for cop excesses
The party leaders said that sand smuggling was rampant the in Nerella Assembly segment of Sircilla district for the last few years.
Hyderabad: The Congress on Thursday threatened to move courts and the National SC, ST Commission against police excesses on Dalits at Jillella village, Sircilla district, for preventing sand smuggling in July.
In an emergency meeting held in Gandhi Bhavan by PCC working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, the party demanded the government institute a judicial probe into the incident. The party leaders also sought suspension and cases against Sircilla superintendent of police Viswajith and other police personnel for their involvement in the attacks against the Dalits.
They threatened to take up the issue with the National SC ST Commission as well as in Parliament.
The party leaders said that sand smuggling was rampant the in Nerella Assembly segment of Sircilla district for the last few years and local TRS leaders were colluding with the police for carrying out this illegal activity.
Instead of acting against culprits, the Congress leaders said the police lathicharged the Dalits for preventing the illegal activity by stopping the trucks and torching them.
