Hyderabad: Cyber security certification and diploma courses are becoming increasingly popular for students with the rise in cyber threats following increasing computerisation.

Courses regarding ethical hacking, ransomware and others are in the syllabus for these courses.

Mr Vikas Singh, a faculty member at Quick Institute of Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking, said, “For the past two years, we have seen an increase in admissions by at least 50 per cent. We get calls from students and already working professionals as certification in the IT field is mandatory.”

The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing conducts a certification course for working professionals and students. “Many working professionals join our courses because they understand the importance of cyber security during these times. Many freshers who have just one year in the IT sector take the course to switch their job profiles. Now we have about 100 students for each session from the about 50 in our preceding sessions,” said Mr Venkat Raman, an C-DAC official.

The increase in demand for these courses has brought out the question of who can teach them. Experts say that youth should be generally preferred for these courses as they are more accustomed to cyber threats, bullying and others.

Team Blue IT Services follows a process of giving interviewees real life situations to see how they will adapt.

“If there is a virus in one’s computer, people who are not well versed in security will just download any anti-virus software but a person who is experienced will identify the virus and the area it has affected before the next step,” said Mr Vinod V., director of the company.

The shortest certification course of five days gets at least 50 applicants including students and professionals.

Authorities claim that increased awareness about cyber security is the factor for the same.
