Don't hand over babies born to surrogates: Hyderabad High Court
While dismissing the writ, the judge said it is for the government to take steps to strengthen its system of litigation.
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Thursday directed the authorities of the Telangana medical and health department against handing over babies born through surrogacy to the commissioned parents without permission of the court.
A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice T Rajani was dealing with a suo motto taken up case based on a letter by Justice Suresh Kumar Kait to the Chief Justice referring to reports carried on June 19, 2017 in this newspaper with regard a police raid on Sai Kiran Hospital and Kiran Infertility Centre at Banjara Hills for carrying surrogacy procedures without following due norms.
While directing the authorities for taking care of new born babies, the bench said that it will decide the issue of custody of the children later.
The bench adjourned the case for one week.
Jagan’s firm withdraws case
Jagathi Publications owned by family of YSR Congress president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday withdrawn its petitions from the Hyderabad HC challenging the challenging the dismissal of their petitions by the CBI Court seeking combined trial in the illegal investments case.
When these petitions came up for hearing before Justice B Siva Sankara Rao, the counsel for the petitioner urged the court to permit them to withdraw their pleas so that they can avail alternative remedies available from then under the law.

No stay on order against Mittal
The Hyderabad HC has declined to stay an order of single judge which has directed the Telangana government to initiate proceedings against senior IAS officer Naveen Mittal in a case of issuance of NOC for prime land in city, based upon fudged documents.
While dealing with an appeal by Mr Mittal, a division bench comprising acting CJ Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice T Rajani directed the government to file status report by October 31.
