Nara Lokesh assures set-top boxes to all

Vijayawada: Minister for IT and PR&RD Nara Lokesh has directed the APSFL authorities to provide cable connection to every house, by procuring set-top boxes on priority basis. The minister convened a meeting with the APSFL authorities on Thursday following a report in the Deccan Chronicle about the dearth of set-top boxes. Out of the assured 10 lakh connections in the first phase, the APSFL was able to provide only 23,304 connections. The officials have informed the minister that arrangements are being made to provide another 38,969 cable connections soon. Similarly, 23,800 kilometres length fiber cable has been laid, accoridng to the officials.

Mr Lokesh directed the ofifcials to constitute district-level coordination committees with officials from the energy and other departments in order to overcome the issues in laying Fibernet cables. The minister assured that  adequate support would be extended to APSFL by the Panchayati raj department in laying cables. APSFL chairman Ajay Jain was present.
