Had warned Chandrababu Naidu against YSRC, says PM Modi
Mr Modi said he had told Mr Naidu not to fall in the YSRC's trap when he threatened to move out of NDA.
Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday praised the TRS for showing maturity in handling post-bifurcation issues, while accusing the TD of falling into the YSRC’s trap and raising a hue and cry over special category status. Replying to a debate on the No Confidence Motion moved by the TD, Mr Modi said he had told Mr Naidu not to fall in the YSRC’s trap when he threatened to move out of NDA. “When Chandrababu talked about quitting NDA demanding special category status for AP, I telephoned him and cautioned him not to fall in the YSRC’s trap. But he did ignored (me). The fight between the TD and the YSRC is hurting the interests of the people of AP more than anything else,” Mr Modi said, amidst sharp protests from TD members. TD members disrupted PM’s speech all along by raising slogans like “We want justice”. Mr Modi continued his speech amidst din in the House.
Mr Modi said that during the initial days of bifurcation, he and Union ministers had held meetings to resolve issues between TS and AP. “While TRS and TS Chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao showed maturity, the TD always used to complain against the TRS governement and KCR,” he said. Mr Modi also lashed out at the Congress for bifurcating AP by closing doors of Parliament for their selfish political gains in 2014. He compared the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh to form Telangana state with the bifurcation of India to form Pakistan.
He said it was not new for the Congress to do bifurcation in this manner. “You divided India in the same manner. India and Pakistan continue to fight on various unresolved issues even today. You also divided AP in this manner due to which AP and Telangana states continue to fight on bifurcation related issues even today,” Mr Modi added. He said the BJP government at the Centre had formed three new states when Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee was Prime Minister.
“There are no issues in these three states. They are peaceful and progressing fast. We have not done bifurcation for selfish political gains. That was the reason our bifurcation was a success. You (Congress) bifurcated AP thinking that you will get power at least in Telanana state if AP is lost. But people are not fools. They have taught you a fitting lesson in both the states and defeated you,” Mr Modi said. Mr Modi assured the people of AP that the his would continue to work for the development of AP irrespective of political reasons. “When we announced special package for AP in 2016, Chandrababu thanked us and praised our finance minister Jaitely. But he suddenly took U-turn falling in YSRC’s trap,” he stated.
