GHMC to build 47 parks, plant 3 crore saplings
According to a GHMC official, the 47 major parks will be spread over a minimum area of one acre.
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is all set to construct 47 parks during the oncoming Haritha Haram programme. It has decided to distribute and plant three crore saplings.
This apart, it will develop an urban park each in Suraram, Madannaguda and Nadergul forest blocks at an estimated cost of Rs 17.75 crore, on the advice of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
According to a GHMC official, the 47 major parks will be spread over a minimum area of one acre. The preparation of the landscape designs for the’ Haritha Haram parks’ is in progress.
This year, the corporation will plant 10 lakh saplings in open spaces, avenues, institutions, lakes and graveyards, The remaining 2.9 crore will be planted in parks, medians, flyovers and given to those willing to plant them.
There are 3,084 identified open spaces in the GHMC area with an area of 1,729 acres. Of these, 1,264 open spaces covering 578 acres are occupied by playgrounds, community halls, graveyards etc. The balance 873 open spaces can be developed into parks with an area of 696 acres which are under regular maintenance by GHMC either through contractors or by welfare associations. There are 331 tree parks covering 179 acres in the GHMC area.
