Kochi: Merit in a spot in government backed engineering colleges
The most serious lapse on the part of the CEE, is that she has failed to publish the vacancy position college-wise, branch-wise and category-wise.
Kochi: In a move that smacks of favouritism that cripples merit, the government supported engineering colleges are moving to spot admission after the third allotment to fill vacant seats with the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations (CEE) issuing the letter permitting the same.
The most serious lapse on the part of the CEE, as reported by this paper previously, is that she has failed to publish the vacancy position college-wise, branch-wise and category-wise. Even when these colleges are going into the spot admission process, there is absolute lack of transparency and the vacancy details have not been published.
The deadline for joining engineering colleges/ courses after third allotment expired at 4 pm on Saturday (July 20).
Interestingly, vacancies are being reported from the prestigious...
Model Engineering College, Ernakulam, under IHRD in the spot admission phase which is quite unheard of in the previous years.
It is understood that there are some 15 vacancies in Computer Science branch alone in the college and the move is to push candidates close to the powers that be by fixing norms arbitrarily for the same. The Model Engineering College has excellent campus placement record.
The other IHRD colleges too are very reputed and include College of Engineering, Chengannur and College of Engineering, Adoor. Normally the seats in these colleges are filled during the online allotment process with students having high ranks.
The CEE has given consent to Centre for Continuing Education, Kerala (CCEK); Director, LBS; Director, CAPE apart from Director IHRD in a letter dated July 20, to fill the engineering seats that remain vacant after the third phase of allotment, through spot admission. IHRD has scheduled the spot admission on July 22 at its colleges.
However, it has not revealed the rules for the same.
People familiar with the allotment process say that normally more online allotments are held to vacant seats in government and government supported colleges after third allotment. However, this year that has been sabotaged.
