Godavari water enters Mancherial hospital, patients shifted
Pregnant, lactating women shifted to safer place from Mother and Child Health Centre on banks of Godavari
Adilabad: Patients have been shifted to the district headquarter hospital located in the main town here from the Mother and Child Health Center (MCHC) located on the banks of River Godavari on Friday.
This followed a rise in the river’s water level in Mancherial district. The MCHC was made functional in February 2022. It remained closed for a few months after floodwaters entered the hospital in June last year. It was reopened a few months ago.
Some of the women patients alleged that doctors told them that they were being discharged and they must go home. The women were angry over the decision to construct the hospital on the banks of river Godavari, as floods remained a regular threat to this hospital.
Notably, floodwaters entered the Mother and Child Care Center last year when Godavari was overflowing. The patients undergoing treatment were immediately shifted to the district headquarter hospital for their safety. The same scenario recurred on Friday.
Congress activists, leaders and supporters of former MLC Premsagar Rao and DCC president Surekha reached the hospital to help the patients while they were being shifted to the government hospital.
Later, members of other parties and government staff too reached there and shifted the patients.
Some Congress leaders shifted the hapless patients in their own vehicles and also in government ambulances and private autos to the district headquarter hospital.
