Hyderabad: Reacting to demands from senior Congress leaders of a CBI inquiry into the Nayeem encounter episode, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly K. Jana Reddy on Saturday said it is not proper to raise such a demand when the SIT is probing into all aspects of the case. Speaking to newsmen here, the former home minister said, “We cannot demand CBI probe or make statements that make it appear that we have no faith in the SIT investigation. Let the SIT come out with its report. We can can go through the report and make fresh demands.

Mr Reddy said when some people came to him and complained about Nayeem’s unlawful activities when he was the home minister, he immediately ordered the police to arrest the renegade Naxal. “But the police then conveyed to me that the whereabouts of Nayeem were not known and he was at large. “In fact, the police hunt for him started during my time and it ended now with his encounter,” Mr Reddy said. Replying to a question, he said that Nayeem never threatened him. “In fact, nobody can threaten me,” the former minister said.
