Bakrid: Dispose of offal scientifically, says BBMP
The trucks will collect the waste from these points and transport it to BBMP landfills at Bellahalli, Kogilu Bande and Singapura.
Bengaluru: Bakrid is round the corner and the BBMP has roped in private landowners to scientifically dispose of animal waste, which is produced in large quantities during the festival.
Mr Sarfaraz Khan, Joint Commissioner, Solid Waste Management, BBMP, said, "Over the last two years, we have been trying hard to scientifically dispose of animal waste. This year too, we are sending trucks to Shivaji Nagar, Jayanagar South, Tannery Road, Byrasandra, M.S. Palya and others to collect animal waste. Collection points will be set up in these areas where people can hand over animal wastes."
The trucks will collect the waste from these points and transport it to BBMP landfills at Bellahalli, Kogilu Bande and Singapura.
He said, "This year, several people, basically farmers, have approached us expressing their willingness to accept animal waste and convert it into manure. We have already started spreading awareness about mini-trucks collecting animal waste. The message will also be spread through major mosques across the city. We have been telling people to hand over waste only at collection points and not to dispose it of unscientifically."
