Roaming gaur scares Salem residents
Efforts were on till late in the evening to drive away the gaur from there.
SALEM: A bison that entered Salem outskirts from nearby Yercaud hill-forest area is keeping Forest department personnel on their toes and local people in deep anxiety.
The Salem district forest officer (DFO), Mr Periyasamy said that the ‘Kaatu Erumai (Indian Bison)’, suddenly appeared from nowhere at Kannangurichi and got into the huge Mukkaneri lake. On information from locals, Forest department personnel rushed to the spot and tried various techniques including bursting of crackers to drive away the bison backed into the forest.
However, the wild animal, kept moving from one tiny islet to another within the lake, before it jumped over five-feet high fence to get into a garden, he said, adding, efforts were on till late in the evening to drive away the gaur from there.
