Phone tapping row: Ramalinga Reddy to write to Union Home Ministry
In 1988, then CM Ramakrishna Hegde quit when a document surfaced along with names of politicians whose phones were tapped.
MANGALURU: Allegations and counter-charges over the phone tapping row will reach New Delhi with home minister R Ramalinga Reddy announcing his decision to write to the Union home ministry about officers of various central organizations allegedly wiretapping phones of 35 ruling party leaders in Karnataka. Turning down the demand by BJP leaders for a probe by the CBI into allegedly eavesdropping by local police officers, he told the media here:"
"Shortly I will write a letter stating that we know that the Central government has been tapping our phones, and raise our objection to the home minister. We know they are keeping a tab on the phone calls of Congress leaders in the state, but preferred to remain silent. There's no truth in Mr Ashoka's allegation about the state government keeping tabs on phone calls of 162 BJP leaders."
