Hyderabad: Around 8,000 idols immersed so far

Demand for domestic Ganesh idols, which range from six inches to one feet, has increased.

Hyderabad: There were around 8,000 idols, of more than five feet, immersed so far in the three major lakes, Hussain sagar, Saroornagar and Safilguda.  For the penultimate and ultimate day of the fest, which falls on September 23 and 24, major arrangements are under way by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and other departments.

In a recent review meet, it was discussed in the presence of all the officials of the GHMC, Police, HMDA, Health wing and other concerned departments to take measures to ensure that the festival ends smoothly and departments should coordinate with each other. 

According to the official reports, around 30,000 cops were deployed to look after the safety of public along with CCTV cameras in all the immersion locations.  There were around 70,000 additional LED bulbs arranged in the procession routes. Also there were special transport services offered by RTC, MMTS and Metro.

Along with adding additional transformers to ensure continuous power supply there will be continuous water supply as well.  A member of Bhagyanagar Utsav Committee member said, “We are expecting a footfall of 50 lakh of people on the last day of the festival.” Almost all the arrangements have been done by the officials except the last minute works, the committee member said.
