Thrissur: Homemaker wins Rs 10 crore Onam Bumper Lottery

THRISSUR: Vathsala Vijayan, 58, a widow living in a rented house at Adat here has won the Onam Bumper Lottery of state government worth Rs 10 crore.
She lost her husband to cancer two years ago and was buying lottery tickets almost every day for the past four years. Out of the Rs 10 crore, she will get nearly Rs 6.5 crore after deducting taxes and Rs 1 crore commission to the agent. She wishes to buy a house at the earliest.

She had bought the ticket a month ago from an agent at West Fort in Thrissur and came to know about her win on Wednesday afternoon.

She said that she and her relatives were first worried about how to keep the ticket safe and her two sons and a daughter and son-in-law decided to keep it a secret. Her elder son Vineesh who rents out painting equipment said that the ticket was submitted to an SBI branch in Thrissur and the bank staff told them it might take three months to get the prize money.

Ms Vathsala’s father Sankaran had won Rs 10 lakh lottery 28 years ago and the prize money was mainly spent to marry of his six daughters.
