Amaravathi dam opens for irrigation

Totally 54,637 acres of agricultural land in Tirupur and Karur districts will benefit from the water release.

Tirupur: Water was released from the Amaravathi dam on Friday for irrigation in Tirupur and Karur districts.

The minister for Animal Husbandry, Udumalai K Radhakrishnan and Minister for Transport, M.R. Vijayabhaskar, switched on the buttons to release the water from Amaravathi dam near Udumalpet in the presence of district collector K S Palanisamy.

Speaking at the function, Mr. Radhakrishnan, said, "totally 54,637 acres of agricultural land in Tirupur and Karur districts will benefit from the water release.  Farmers should utilise the opportunity for prudently using the water for farming."

The Deputy Speaker of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, Pollachi V Jayaraman, MLAs and officials took part.
