Hyderabad: Medical colleges flout rules on fee refunding
The parents have complained that colleges are harassing students with partial fee payments and the certificates.
Hyderabad: Ignoring the Union Human Resource Development Ministry’s orders to refund the fee if they withdraw their admission, medical colleges are not refunding the total fee amount. Many NEET-UG aspirants are doing the rounds of colleges to collect their dues, alleged junior doctors associations, Health Care Reforms Doctors Association along with medical aspirants and their parents.
The parents have complained that colleges are harassing students with partial fee payments and the certificates of a few students are also being withheld by the managements. The Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) had sent a mail to all the colleges on August 25 to withdraw their seats before August 27 and accordingly the students have resigned their seats.
A parent on condition of anonymity said, “The private medical college returned Rs 11 lakh, but they did not return Rs 1 lakh. When we asked the college for the rest of the money, they told us to visit the college to discuss about the fees,” the parent said.
KNRUHS Vice-Chancellor, Dr B Karunakar Reddy said, “So far, we have not received any written complaint or representation from the parents or the students regarding the fee refund issue. If the students come with a written complaint, we will look into the matter and will speak to the concerned colleges. Ideally, the colleges should return the complete fees after the students withdraw the seats.”
“Even though we met the college authorities they have kept the Rs 1 lakh on hold and when we asked for the receipt and the reason for keeping the rest of the fees they did not respond. The private medical colleges are not following the guidelines of KNRUHS,” the parent added.
Health Care Reforms Doctors Association, President, Dr K Mahesh said, “KNRUHS officials have always failed on many occasions to regulate the violations by private medical colleges like seat blocking, bank guarantee, excess collection of tuition fees, false transactions of stipends etc and now this harassment of students by not refunding tuition fees. HRDA urges officials to at least act from now onwards by taking legal action on private medical colleges violating the rules and also to launch a student-friendly grievance cell for immediate action.”
