Nellore: Civic officials disduss issues

Nellore: Municipal administration wing has embarked on a mission to find permanent solutions to mitigate drinking water issues in 110 municipalities across the state at an estimated cost of Rs 4,750 crore being borrowed from Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.

Urban development minister P. Narayana said this during a review with municipal commissioners of seven civic bodies in Nellore on Saturday.

Referring to the menace of stray dogs and pigs in the municipalities, he said they have carried out sterilisation to 3.25 lakh dogs in the state as part of a special drive recently. In case of Nellore, 90 per cent of the dogs have been sterilised.

He said Nellore civic body will soon setup a shelter for cows (gosala) abandoned by their owners in the city. Similar arrangements are also being made for pigs to prevent them from roaming about in the city but there is some resistance for the move.
