Chennai to get intermittent heavy rains over next 24 hours
Northeast monsoon is to get a boost and heavy downpour can continue till the first half of December
Chennai: After a dry spell, intermittent heavy rains are expected in various parts of Chennai in the next 24 hours, said Regional Meteorological Centre on Monday.
Though the low pressure had moved to northern areas, southern districts and coastal areas will get short spells brought by easterly winds from Tuesday.
The moisture was driven away as low pressure headed towards north a week ago and the temperature rose by two degree Celsius from normal since the rains ceased. But the good news is that a fresh low pressure is likely to form on Tuesday.
As per the RMC officials weather conditions are to turn favourable to bring in sharp showers and moderate rainfall in Chennai, coastal areas, interior regions and the delta. Rain or thundershower is likely to occur in a few places over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, as a fresh low pressure is to form near Andaman Sea.
The low pressure coupled with upper cyclonic circulation over Bay of Bengal is likely to bring intermittent rainfall over many areas in Tamil Nadu in next 24 hours.
S. Vijayan, an official at Met centre, said that though the sky condition is likely to remain cloudy, bright sunshine is to occur during the day. “Light rain is likely in some areas during evening or night. Maximum and minimum temperature is likely to be around 33 degree Celsius and 26 degree Celsius respectively,” he said.
Northeast monsoon is to get a boost and heavy downpour can continue till the first half of December. The city is to receive moderate rainfall for next 3-4 days.
