Hyderabad traffic police use slogans, cartoons for safe driving
Cops want to increase awareness before they book erring drivers.
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad traffic police has come up with cartoons and illustrations accompanied by slogans to alert road users about the dangers of poor driving.
Some of the slogans, “Road is a necessity for everyone, never make it dangerous for someone” and “Say no to jay walking and jay driving”, have been shared on Twitter, Facebook and WhatsApp and other social media platforms.
According to a senior traffic police officer, the city traffic police wishes to increase awareness about road safety before en-forcing rules and booking erring drivers.
Positive messages promoting social responsibility and awareness are regularly posted on the Hyderabad traffic police Twitter and Facebook pages.
A team of 10 to 15 cops is responsible for creating and sharing these posts. This move has been well received by the residents of the city; who often like, comment on and share them.
City resident Mohammad Imran said, “I appreciate the initiative taken by the traffic police, but people should also realise the importance of road safety rules. Apart from sharing such posts, the traffic police should use large hoardings in busy areas to propagate the messages.”
Dr V. Ravinder, joint commissioner of police (traffic), said, “Our main aim is to educate. There is no point in booking drivers without educating them about traffic violations. We are friendly police, so we prefer to educate citizens for violation-free traffic.”
Deputy commissioner of police (traffic) A.V. Ranganath said, “Apart from imposing challans and penalty points, we are trying our best to educate the public, most of whom are unaware of traffic rules and regulations.”
