Chennai: 60-year-old alcoholic murdered by nephew
Ethirajan was hit with a stone by his nephew and sustained a deep wound. The accused was caught within a few hours.
Chennai: Two persons were murdered at two different places in the city due in drunken brawls on Tuesday night.
A 60-year-old man was murdered by his nephew in Alandur, police said. The deceased has been identified as Ethirajan (60), a resident of Ashagaana Street.
He was an alcoholic and lived with his sister Saraswathi (55) and her son Gokul Raj (31).
Police said the accused had managed to escape from the spot but were caught within hours of the murder.
According to police, Ethirajan came home drunk and picked up an argument with Saraswathi. He verbally abused her in front of her son Gokul Raj. Irked by his uncle’s behaviour, he picked up a stone from the side of the road and smashed his head and fled the spot.
Ethirajan sustained a deep wound in the head and died on the spot. The local police were alerted about the incident and St.Thomas Mount Police registered a murder case and launched a search for the man who was nabbed within a few hours. The body of the deceased was sent to Chengalpet government hospital for post-mortem. Police arrested Gokul and later remanded him under judicial custody In another case, the city police arrested a 45-year-old man for allegedly beating his father to death at Nerkundram near Koyambedu. Police said M.Balaji (45) murdered his father, Muthu (80) after a verbal duel in the small hours of Wednesday. Balaji was drunk when he attacked his father with a log.
Muthu suffered injuries on his head and was taken to Kilpauk hospital for treatment but he succumbed to injuries on Wednesday morning. His body was sent for post-mortem. The Koyambedu police registered a murder case and arrested. Balaji from his hideout in the area. He was remanded in judicial custody.
