Chennai: Electricity would be restored in 2 days, says Piyush Goyal
Power supply to the three districts was disconnected on Monday last week as the Cyclone Vardah hit the Chennai Coast and is being restored in phases.
Chennai: Restoration of electricity would be complete in Cyclone Vardah-ravaged areas of Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram and the Union Government is providing all possible technical help, Power Minister Piyush Goyal said on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a private event in New Delhi, Mr Goyal said the Union Power Ministry has extended all possible help to Tangedco in restoration of the power lines in Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts.
“Electricity supply to all areas affected by Cyclone Vardah will be restored in two days. Work is on full swing and the Union Power Ministry is seeking a daily report from TN Government,” he said.
Power supply to the three districts was disconnected on Monday last week as the Cyclone Vardah hit the Chennai Coast and is being restored in phases. While Chennai and its suburbs have got power, the interior areas in the districts are yet to get power supply. Tangedco blamed fallen electricity poles and transformers for the delay.
