Hyderabad: A day after an eight-year-old was killed brutally in a road accident in Uppal, a bus from St Mary’s College, in a bid to jump a traffic signal, hit an RTC bus killing instantaneously a 10-year-old girl who was travelling in a motorcycle with her uncle on Wednesday.

Officials marked the junction as a black spot for accidents and closed it down permanently by Wednesday afternoon.

The girl was identified as Madhushalini, daughter of D. Balakrishna of Kothapet, who was with her uncle B. Venkatesh on the motorcycle AP 29 BS 8878, proceeding tow-ards Abdullapurmet, the police said. The collision left several persons injured.

“On reaching Pasum-amula Junction in Peddamberpet, they noticed an RTC bus crossing the road and slowed their bike. Meanwhile, the driver of a bus from St Mary’s College (AP 29 TC 0787), coming from Hayath-nagar, tried to jump the signal in a rash manner, hit the RTC bus, mowed down the bike and ran over the girl,” said Hayathnagar police inspector  J. Narender Goud.

“Keeping in view the frequent number of accidents, major and minor, at that site, we put a word with the traffic police and closed the junction putting up barricades. Now commuters have to take a U-turn from a little ahead,” he added

Police arrived at the spot immediately and took away the vehicles. A case was booked on the driver under Section 304A (death by negligence) of the IPC, following a complaint of Balakrishna.

“We shifted the body to Osmania Hospital for a post-mortem and regulated the traffic,” added Mr. Goud.

Earlier on Tuesday, Bhumika Reddy, 8, studying in Johnson Grammar School, lost her life after a speeding truck hit the bike she on under Uppal police limits.
