HYDERABAD: Even as the state government has decided to take steps to promote Telugu language, the BJP is sceptical about the government’s move.
The party highlighted the tardy progress at the new campus of Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University for which 100 acres of land in Bachupally was allocated nearly 15 years ago.

The hostel and publication building were completed in 2005 and one-and-a-half years later, construction of the administration and college building were taken up. But the works had to be stopped mid-way due to paucity of funds.

Due to non-utilisation for the last 10 years, the new campus wears a deserted look. It may be mentioned that the varsity is still operating from its existing campus in Nampally.

Boys are being given accommodation in a hostel in Bachupally. Now, the hostel with nearly 50 rooms is half full. The students have to travel more than two hours every day to attend classes in the varsity.

Mohammed Shakeer, a PG student, said that they are facing problems in the hostel. Shortage of drinking water and lack of roads are some of them.
BJP state president Dr K. Laxman and vice-president Malla Reddy flayed the government for the sad state of affairs in the campus.

Meanwhile, Telugu University vice-chancellor Prof. S.V. Satyanarayana stated that paucity of funds affected the varsity.
