Telangana to buy cyclone-hit paddy crops

Hyderabad: About 3,491 tonnes of paddy crop in Telangana State that was damaged due to the cyclone Phethai will be purchased from the farmers, the Civil Supplies Department said on Thursday. It said it has established a control room at the Civil Supplies Bhavan to review the damage caused by the cyclone.
As per latest reports, out of total the 3,214 Paddy Purchase Centers in the state, at 1,117 centers, rain damaged 3,491 tonnes of paddy. Paddy was damaged in large amounts at Mancherial, Siddipet, Adilabad, Sircilla districts.
On Thursday, the Civil Supplies Department issued orders to millers to submit 10 percent of total paddy purchased to FCI under Custom Milling Rice (as Boiled Rice).
So far, the department has said that it has purchased 32 lakh tonnes of paddy of which 31.82 lakh tonnes has been transferred to mills from the 6.15 lakh farmers. The cost of paddy purchased is '5,672 crore. From this amount '4,922 crore has already been deposited in to farmers’ accounts, the department said.
