Visakhapatnam: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Visakhapatnam apprehended P. Balasubramanyam, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices in Bhimavaram division for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹2.5 lakh.

The investigation started when Balasubramanyam issued an order suspending a postman on November 30, citing a criminal case currently under trial. In an attempt to lift the suspension, the accused initially demanded ₹10 lakh as a bribe. After negotiations, he reduced the bribe amount to ₹2.5 lakh.

Searches of the accused's residence and office premises yielded incriminating documents, strengthening the case against him.

The senior superintendent has been arrested and presented before Special Judge Court for CBI Cases in Vijayawada on Wednesday. The court remanded him to judicial custody until January 2, 2024, as the investigation into the case is continuing.

The CBI said aggrieved can lodge complaint with it via post or through toll-free number 1800 425 00100 and email hobacvskp@cbi.gov.in or landline 0891-2783344 and mobile 94927 83344.
