Chennai Corporation gets ready for polio immunisation drive

The mobile and temporary camps would also be arranged at beaches, parks and places.

Chennai: Taking part in countrywide polio immunisation campaign, the Greater Chennai Corporation has started taking preparatry measures to conduct the campaign on January 28.

“A district co-ordination meeting had been conducted on Friday at Ripon Buildings to discuss the preparation measures”, a Chennai Corporation official said. According to the official, more than 1,600 camps would be organised in Chennai district.

“It is also decided to set up mobile polio camps at bus stands and railway stations. The meeting was presided over by Deputy Commissioner (Health) M. Vijayalakshmi”, the official added.

The mobile and temporary camps would also be arranged at beaches, parks and places. The polio vaccine would be given to children below 5 years.

The second round of immunisation drive would be conducted on March 11, according to the official. Although India is declared as polio-free, the authorities continue to conduct immunisation drive to prevent transmission from other countries.
