Coimbatore: The textile city is getting ready to host its first ever ‘jallikattu (bull taming sport)’ on Sunday (January 28) at a 26-acre plot in Chettipalayam near here. Terming the traditional ‘'jallikattu’ a ‘brave sport’, Thondamuthur MLA, Mr S.  P. Velumani, on Sunday performed a ceremony at the venue for setting up of the passage through which participating bulls will be sent in to the arena, (Vadivaasal), while conducting the sport.

Omkar Foundation in partnership with the district administration is organising the event. One of the organizers confirmed that strict safety measures will be incorporated to ensure that there are no problems while conducting jallikattu here. Only certified bulls and tamers will be permitted to participate in the event.

In order to ensure that there is enough space between the spectators and participants, two set of barricades will be erected separating the former from the latter. Readying seating arraignments are underway and the venue can accommodate up to 15,000 people.
