Essence of Vedas embedded in Purandara Dasa keerthanas, says Pontiff
He said that it was heartening to note that the TTD has been organising the Metlotsavam, to inspire the devotees follow the footsteps of great saints.
Tirupati: The pontiff of Vyasaraja Math, S.S.S. Vidyasreesha Theertha Swamiji iterated that the essence of Vedas were embedded in the sacred sankeertans, written and composed by the famous poet Purandara Dasa.
He was speaking at the ‘Srivari Metlotsavam’ organised by the TTD Dasa Sahithya project, every three months, at Padala mandapam in Alipiri on Monday. He said great saint poets and devotees of Lord Venkateswara like Tyagaraja, Annama-charya and emperor Krishna Devaraya had spread the glory of Lord to the entire world through their verses.
He said that it was heartening to note that the TTD has been organising the Metlotsavam, to inspire the devotees follow the footsteps of great saints. “It is a great blessing to start climbing Tirumala hills at the Brahma muhurtham and have the darshan of Lord Venkateswara,” he said.
Ananda Thirthacharya, the OSD of TTD's Dasa Sahithya Project said, devotees from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are coming in large numbers and climbing Tirumala by foot, chanting hymns and bhajans on the glory of Lord Balaji.
The members of Bhajan Mandals were imparted training in dharma, competitions like antakshari in Haridasa keertana and Sangeeth Chitravali were organised at the third choultry.
Earlier, as many as 3,000 members of bhajan mandals walked from the third choultry to Alipiri Padala Mandapam, chanting sankeertans and performed special pujas there, before climbing the Tirumala hills.
