3-day polio vaccination programme under way in Visakhapatnam

Mr Srinivasa Rao said that since 2011, there was not a single polio case reported in the country.

Visakhapatnam: HRD minister Ganta Srinivas Rao here on Sunday launched three day pulse polio immunization programme. The district administration has setup  around 3,600 polio booths across the district to administer polio drops to around 4.5 lakh children below the age of 5. Around 331 booths were setup in high risk zones.

Talking to reporters after launching the immunization programme at Girijan bhavan, the minister said that for the last 9 years not even a single polio case has been reported from the district. Mr Srinivasa Rao said that since 2011, there was not a single polio case reported in the country.

“It is indeed a good sign that India is now a polio free country. Every parent should feel it as a responsibility to administer their children the polio drops given by the health staff under Mission Indradhanush programme,” he said.

The immunization programme will continue for another 2 days across the district and the medical and heath staff will be available at the booths setup by the government.
