Sarath Kumar walks out of AIADMK alliance
Even before his expulsion, Narayanan had been openly supporting Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa in the Assembly.
Chennai: The All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi led by actor-politician R. Sarath Kumar snapped ties with the ruling AIADMK ahead of the Assembly elections in the state. The AISMK won two MLA seats in the 2011 Assembly elections in alliance with the AIADMK. Sarath Kumar and Ernavur Narayanan was elected. Earlier this year, the party expelled Narayanan due to differences on continuing the alliance with the AIADMK. Even before his expulsion, Narayanan had been openly supporting Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa in the Assembly.
The actor’s defeat in last year’s Nadigar Sangam election may have contributed to his decision, Mr Sarath Kumar, while addressing the general body meeting of his party in Nagercoil in Kanyakumari district on Sunday, asked his party cadres if they wished to continue in the AIADMK alliance. When they emphatically replied “no,” he said “then we will not have alliance.”
The actor, who attended the Assembly on Saturday when the interim budget session concluded, had campaigned hard for AIADMK in the 2011 Assembly elections, 2014 Lok Sabha elections and polls to local bodies. He will be announcing next week his future course of action, perhaps on the possibility of entering into an electoral pact with the DMK combine, when the party’s manifesto is to be released.
