K Chandrasekhar Rao gives nod to martyrs' memorial design
Though several designs were submitted to CM over the past few months, none was appro-ved by the CM who suggested several changes.
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday approved the design for the construction of Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial on the banks of Hussainsagar.
The foundation was la-id on June 2, 2016, at Lumbini Park on the occasion of the second anniversary of the formation of TS. However, the project did not make headway due to the delay in finalisation of design.
Though several designs were submitted to CM over the past few months, none was appro-ved by the CM who suggested several changes. Finally, the design approved by the CM were tweeted by IT minister K.T. Rama Rao on Wednesday. “To eternalise the sacrifices of hundreds of martryrs in the TS statehood movement, TS CMO has approved martyrs’ memorial design. Coming up at the famous Hussainsagar at the core of Hyderabad,” the tweet said.
The memorial was an attempt by the TRS government to ‘eternalise the sacrifices of hundreds who laid down their lives for statehood for Telangana,’ he said.
The three-storey structure would have a museum on TS movement, an audio-visual hall, a convention hall and a restaurant.
While the main building was designed to replicate a diya, it would have a flag post with the statue of Telangana Talli atop at the entrance.
The CM wanted the structure to become a cultural and literary centre showcasing Telang-ana history and culture.
Tenders for construction would be invited in March and works would commence by April. The government set a target of one year for completion of the Rs 300-crore project.
