Milling crowds wait patiently at Vengeeswarar temple

Thousands of devotees had been flocking to the temple since morning to seek His blessings.

Chennai: Patience and devotion marked Maha Shivaratri celebrations at Vengeeswarar temple, Vadapalani, on Friday night. Thousands of devotees had been flocking to the temple since morning to seek His blessings.

  While a group of women was reciting Thevaram and Thiruvasagam, a few men and women were glued to their books chanting slokas.  Some devotees, including children were wearing rudraksha mala. Young and old didn't mind standing in serpentine queues to get  darshan of deities. Two men were found holding huge garlands in their hands.

  Meanwhile, announcements were made at regular intervals through public address system requesting devotees to take care of their valuables especially cellphones. The streets leading to the temple were jam-packed.  And the  number of devotees stepping into the temple rose as Maha Shivaratri celebrations touched its crescendo at midnight.
