Parents unhappy over noon schools
Worry over sweltering summer heat.
Warangal: School students are bearing the brunt of the unplanned decisions taken by the state government. With some government schools running classes in the afternoon due to SSC examinations which began on Monday, students are forced to go to school in the sweltering weather. Parents are unhappy with the decision as the children are prone to falling sick while travelling in the hot weather.
Due to the SSC examinations beginning from Monday, the classes are being run in the afternoon from 1 pm to 5 pm in the schools which are exam centres. There are 254 centres in the district. “The syllabus for the academic year is completed, and annual examinations were also held. New text books have not arrived. Why can they not announce holidays till the SSC exams are finished? This year the summer has arrived early and we are experiencing hot weather. The children are going to school in the scorching heat. Why trouble the children like this?” asked D. Rama of Julaiwada.
The Telangana State Directorate of School Education had earlier announced in its academic calendar that the new academic year would begin on March 21 on the lines of the CBSE pattern. But as they failed to supply the required text books on time due to litigation among textbook printers. They retracted their decision recently and announced that the academic year would begin in mid-June like every year. The schools were required to run classes till April 23 before breaking for summer vacation.
Adhering to the earlier decision, teachers completed the syllabus for the current academic year and also conducted annual exams till class IX. The exams were completed on March 15. Teachers say even though new text books have not arrived, they are using previous year’s text books to teach lessons to the students for this one month.
