GHMC to revisit 163 heritage structures

GHMC deputy commissioners would inspect the sites every week to ensure sanitation.

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has formed a heritage committee to revisit all 163 heritage structures and suggest measures to restore and conserve them. The committee would frame policies pertaining to maintainence of heritage structures.

It has been decided that works pertaining to sanitation near heritage sites be handed over to the civic body from the state heritage department. GHMC deputy commissioners would inspect the sites every week to ensure sanitation.

A senior GHMC official said the names of two experts in archaeology, heritage and history had ben forwarded to the government for inclusion as co-opted members of the committee.

The committee will  revisit the heritage sites which were notified by the erstwhile Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority.

He said that the committee make an on-field conditional assessment and and prepare a report for the government.

GHMC commissioner M. Dana Kishore, who is chairman of the committee, instru-cted zonal and deputy commissioners to examine the sanitation around the heritage structures and visit the sites in their jurisdiction at least once a week to ensure cleanliness. He asked police authorities to protect the heritage buildings.
