Hyderabad: Tickets for RTC buses that ply towards the Andhra region have started selling out 20 days ahead of elections on online platforms. Given the heavy demand, the corporation is slowly diverting buses from other routes and arranging special buses for the election day on April 11.

Most of the ticket bookings are being done for a day before, April 10. With the elections in the Telugu states commencing their first phase on April 11, the people from Andhra Pradesh who have settled in Telangana state have started preparing to go back to their hometowns to cast their votes in their respective constituencies.

Election day happens to be Thursday, which will be declared a holiday. A day later will be Second Saturday and Sunday, making for a very long weekend..

“As soon as I heard that the elections are going to be held on April 11, I booked a ticket to my native place, Vijayawada.

It is certainly better to book in advance as summer vacations are about to begin, which can result in a lot of rush in public transport and booking-related inconveniences,” said Mr Sathish Kumar, a resident of Begumpet.

There will be special buses for those who plan their journey in the last minute, but they will be 1.5 times more expensive compared to the regular buses.

RTC officials said that they have not finalized the total number of special buses yet, as they are still working on it, and that the number will depend on the demand.
