Andhra Pradesh: Erratic signals trouble traffic
Traffic lights at some major junctions in the city, particularly on the NH-16 stretch, have not been functioning properly.
Visakhapatnam: Traffic lights at some major junctions in the city, particularly on the NH-16 stretch, have not been functioning properly for the past few weeks. The erratic signals have been throwing traffic out of gear during peak hours at Maddilapalem, Gurudwara, Tatichetlapalem, Urvasi Junction, Gajuwaka and few other places in the city. The absence of traffic cops sometimes makes it more difficult, especially for motorists.
Motorist R. Pradeep Kumar said he found that at night, traffic signals at some junctions on NH-16 are not functioning properly as the signals show either yellow light or nothing. Traffic cops struggle to regulate the vehicular traffic due to non-functioning of the signal light during night and sometimes it leading to traffic congestion, he added. Sources in the police said traffic at certain junctions such as NAD Kotharoad, Satyam Junction, Akkayyapalem, Maddilapalem, Ishukathota, Gajuwaka on NH-16 stretch in the city becomes so chaotic when the traffic lights do not function properly.
A private firm has completed the installation of traffic signals at over 60 junctions, but there is delay in service, whenever the-re is a problem. Admitting the issue, ADCP (Traffic) K. Mahendra Patrudu said sometimes technical snag was the reason behind the non-functioning of traffic signals. “Our teams have been trained to regulate the traffic in case of failure of traffic signals,” he added.
