Hyderabad: Union information and broadcasting minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said here on Friday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to accord Constitutional status to the national backward classes commission was a big reform intended to ensure social justice for weaker sections of the society.

Several backward classes organisations in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states have felicitated the Union minister thanking the Central government for bringing such a reform for their uplift. Venkaiah Naidu said though there has been a demand for according Constitutional status for the BC Commission, there never was any attempt during the previous governments in this direction.

He said the Lok Sabha has already passed the bill and it was only waiting for the Rajya Sabha to give its nod. These kinds of reforms are being brought forward by the Prime Minister also because he came from a poor family and knew how some sections of people suffered, Mr Naidu said.

Mr Naidu said the government always supported reservations for various weaker sections including the economically backward segments, but there shall not be any reservation based on religions. He claimed the Modi government was the only one in the country’s history that has not been tainted by any scam or corruption cases.
