Andhra Pradesh to probe into gold row at TTD
Subrahmanyam said that the media had reported that due procedures had not been followed in transporting the gold.
Vijayawada: AP Chief Secretary L.V. Subrahmanyam has appointed special chief secretary of revenue (land and endowment) Manmohan Singh to inquire into the dispute over the transportation of the 1,381 kg of gold belonging to the TTD. He sought a preliminary report by April 23.
Mr Subrahmanyam said that the media had reported that due procedures had not been followed in transporting the gold, which led to its seizure by the static surveillance team of the Election Commission one day before the Tamil Nadu Lok Sabha elections. He said there was an immediate need to uncover the truth and initiate corrective measures.
Mr Subrahmanyam said that the inquiry will identify the lapses, if any, in the release and transportation of the gold on the part of the TTD and the Punjab National Bank. He said that the inquiry will examine if there were any written instructions issued by the TTD Executive Officer, and also look into the role of the TTD Vigilance wing.
