GHMC to give away wood, make compost of leaves
An official from the horticulture department said the GHMC had employed about 80 woodcutters to chop the trees.
Hyderabad: The GHMC has proposed to give away the wood from fallen trees and branches for free while the green matter will be used to develop compost pits. Unlike previous times, the wood will not end up in the dumping yard. An official from the horticulture department said the GHMC had employed about 80 woodcutters to chop the trees.
“The wood from these trees is not of value and can at best be used for firewood. There is no point in spending money to transport the uprooted trees and branches. The wood is being given awa,” he said.
The leafy parts are being taken to Indira Park where a compost pit will be made. The official said the green parts of the trees will be dumped in the pit and some some urea will be added. “It will form compost which can be used in the park, he said.
