The rail line is also expected to boost the tourism potential of the Northern Kerala as tourists from Bangalore and Mysuru side can easily reach the places. The project was proposed 58 years ago.

Kozhikdoe: Thalassery MLA A N Shamseer will call an all-party meeting on May 27 to discuss about the proposed Thalassery-Mysore Railway line. The decision to convene the meeting was taken after the Thalassery Railway Action Committee Kerala (TRACK) announced hartal against the laxity of authorities to make the project a reality. Follwing the request from the MLA, the TRACK has called off the hartal scheduled to be held on May 23 at Thalassery taluk. The all-party meeting will be held at 5 pm at Paris Presidency.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, TRACK chairman C.P Aluppy Keyi said that so far the political parties have not reacted on the issue including the MPs and MLA. “I am happy that at least now they have realised the importance of the railway line and decided to call the meeting. Based on that, we have decided to withdraw the hartal,” he said.  “When the DMRC report came which raised doubt about the feasibility of the project, no one intervened in the issue and reacted,” he added.
