Chennai: A day after urging the Tamil Nadu government to obtain Cauvery water by June 12, the scheduled date for opening the Mettur dam for irrigation, DMK working president M. K. Stalin demanded that the Centre’s Cauvery Water Management Authority order the release of Cauvery water by June 12. “If the  proposed Cauvery  Water Management Authority is a fully-empowered body, let’s hope it will order the release of water by June 12 to Tamil Nadu,” he said.

On Sunday while speaking at a wedding in Mayiladuthurai, Mr. Stalin said that with a new secular government to be in place in Karnataka in two or three days, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami should utilise the opportunity, establish cordial ties with the new government and obtain Cauvery water by June 12. Although the Supreme Court’s verdict has strengthened Tamil Nadu’s case, Mr. Palaniswami should also aim to get Cauvery water by establishing friendly ties with Karnataka, he added

Speaking at a wedding at Velankanni in the state, the DMK leader said that leaders of several parties in the country were in touch with his party to work out a strategy to dislodge the communal BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “There will be a change of rule at the Centre and state soon. We should prepare ourselves for this,” he said.
