Telangana: Call to stop scrapping of courses
They have stated that it is a violation of the autonomy of autonomous colleges who can choose their own subjects.
Hyderabad: The Telangana Save Education Committee has demanded that the Higher education board stop scraping of courses such as journalism, geography and human rights from government degree colleges during the upcoming academic year.
These courses have been present in several government degree colleges in Telangana but have been deleted from the list of proposed course for this year and the committee stated that the same courses are made available in private colleges which is aiding and abetting the privatisation of higher education.
They have stated that it is a violation of the autonomy of autonomous colleges who can choose their own subjects.
The secretary, K Laxminarayana Rao told this newspaper that the, “Unilateral deletion of courses and subjects such as journalism and geography without valid academic reasons is detrimental to the growth of comprehensive knowledge and it is opposed to the students of rural backgrounds.”
The education committee has also requested the board to extend the dates for admission in under graduate courses this year.
