Chennai: Vignesh. V of Erode Ideal higher secondary school, who was ranked second in the medical aspirants’ list released last week, is the son of a bus conductor. He is only one among a large number of students attending the MBBS counselling who are not from well to do families.  He landed a seat at Madras Medical College (MMC) in Tuesday’s counselling.

Life was never too easy for him, which may have pushed him into working harder than the others. “My father, R. Vadivel is a government bus conductor and mother V. Saraswathy, a housewife. We depended solely on my father’s salary,” said the youngster, who wishes to become a Nephrologist. “Everyone has chosen the goal of becoming either a cardiologist or an oncologist. The kidney is also an important part of the body,” said he.

The student had scored a cut off of 200.   He had received scholarships to study in classes XI and XII. The vice chancellor of Sastra University has promised to fund his medical studies, an offer he made through the district collector Dr N. Subbaiyan.
