NRK suicide, Binoy Kodiyeri case to feature in CPM meet
The suicide of Sajan who was a CPM fellow traveler, has rocked the state and the government.
THIRUVANANTHPURAM: The three-day CPM leadership meeting will begin at the AKG Centre on Saturday in the back drop of the suicide of NRK Sajan and charges of rape and cheating against state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s son Binoy Kodiyeri.
The state secretariat on Saturday and state committee meeting on Sunday and Monday was originally convened to review the defeat of the LDF in the recent Lok Sabha polls. The reports of the respective district committees, Lok Sabha constituency level committees and booth level committees would be discussed in detail during the deliberations.
However, the party is also likely to spend time discussing the case rela-ted to Binoy Kodiyeri as it has caused huge embarrassment to the state secretary and the party leaderhip. Though politburo meeting in Delhi on Thursday decided to steer clear of the grave charges made by the woman against Kodiyeri’s son, the state leadership will have to draw up a strategy to defend the state secretary.
A section of leaders including M.V. Govin-dan and minister A.K. Balan had come out in support of Kodiyeri saying that the parents and party were not responsible for the acts of the children. However, leaders like Brinda Karat and J. Mercy Kuty Amma have categorically stated that the party woud not defend the wrong doer and they will have to bear the consequences of the case.
The suicide of Sajan who was a CPM fellow traveler, has rocked the state and the government. The incident has put the CPM, and the Chief Minister on the defensive. Though the Chief Minister has termed the incident as extremely unfortunate and called for removing red tapism in administration, the party will have to evolve a strategy to make the government machinery more people friendly. Many in the party feel that such incidents are unacceptable.
There is already pressure from the local leadership of party to remove Anthoor municipality chairperson P.K. Shyamala who is Govindan master’s wife.
