Hyderabad: Filthy' hotels go scot-free with Rs 500 fine

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has cracked the whip on several hotels in the twin cities after it found them guilty of violating hygiene and food safety rules. 

Hotel Sitara Grand in Banjara Hills was fined Rs 10,000 for unhygienic condition. Spice 6 in Banjara Hills was fined Rs 20,000 for the unhygienic condition of its kitchen, and Y2K restaurant in Panjagutta was sealed for serving stale food and not having a trade licence.

Almas Palace in Jubilee Hills was fined Rs 10,000 for the unhygienic condition of its kitchen and Swagath Grand in Vanasthalipuram had to pay a fine of '10,000 for serving stale food.

Astoria Hotel at RTC X Roads was fined Rs 10,000 for unhygienic conditions. Paradise Hotel at IS Sadan had to pay a fine of Rs 20,000 for using unstamped meat and lack of hygiene, and Minerva Grand at SD Road, Secunderabad, was fined the same amount for the same reasons. 

The GHMC has inspected 289 plus eateries since April 3, 2017 and imposed penalties on 171 for violating various rules. It has collected Rs 1,407,100 in fines so far.

Fines for violating rules under schedule U of section 596 of GHMC Act, 1955 
Rs 520: Not having trade license and display  
Rs 1,000: Clean drinking water not provided 
Rs 1,000: Disposal of waste and segregation not done properly
Rs 5,000: Badly maintained toilets  
Rs 2,000: No toilets
Rs 5,000: Not maintaining drainage system 
Rs 10,000: Non existance of proper exits, fire extinguisher and sprinklers
Rs 10,000: Use of less than 50 micron plastic carry bags 

Under Section 562(1), hoteliers can be booked:
Rs 500: Storing of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food together in cold chambers 
Rs 500: Exposure of food items to flies, pests, rodents and dust 
Rs 500: Storing raw and cooked food together in the cold chamber  

Fine structure for hygiene: 
Rs 500: No provision of exhaust facility in the kitchen 
Rs 500: Staff not wearing clean clothes, head gear and gloves 

Rs 500: Persons with infectious working 
Rs 500: Unclean and broken utensils 
Rs 500: Poor ventilation and 
lightening in kitchen area
